Fontella was created as an expression of "classic Italian wines," each representing best traditional Italian winemaking in its area of origin.
Fontella wines are made from grapes grown in vineyards located in the best-suited areas of Lazio, Umbria, Puglia and Tuscany. Fontella represents the best winemaking traditions of classic Italian wines, most notably Chianti. With history dating back to the 8th century, Chianti was initially a white wine! In the early eighteenth century, Cosimo III de'Medici, the Grand Duke of Tuscany, declared an area known as the Lega del Chianti as the officially recognized production area. This zone has since been expanded and now includes sub-zones, such as Chianti Classico.
