Founded in 1967 by two Italian wine visionaries, Giovanni Carlo Sacchet and Antonio Mario Zaccheo, Carpineto is a Historic producer of Tuscan wines, with estates in all of the region’s most important appellations. Its property stretches over 500 hectares of land, of which less than half (roughly 200 hectares) are planted to vine. The wide range of its holdings, including other crops and undeveloped land still covered by woods, helps to bolster biodiversity, an element that helps to make for wines that are more expressive of their terroir. Carpineto is also one of Italy’s most environmentally friendly producers. Across its five estates, Carpineto practices what it calls “bee-friendly” farming. By avoiding the use of synthetic pesticides or herbicides, the winery’s bee population is robust and vibrant. Not only is it an indicator of the vineyard’s biodiversity and health, but it’s also beneficial for the environment. Its five estates have zero emissions thanks to the use of sustainable energy sources. It also produces vegan-friendly wines. The winery’s Vino Nobile di Montepulciano, one of its most iconic, has appeared 3 times in Wine Spectator’s list of the top 100 Italian wines.
