Nino Franco is one of Prosecco DOCG’s oldest and most beloved winemakers, one of the pioneers and among the first to ship Prosecco beyond Italy’s borders. Current generation owner Primo Franco is a proud producer of traditional-style Prosecco and has never followed trends or fads. At a vertical tasting of his wines stretching back 30 years, he famously said that “I don’t like apples or bananas,” a reference to the “candied” style of Prosecco that emerged in the late 1990s as Prosecco fever began to take hold across the globe and Prosecco wineries tried to create an “modern-style” sweet Prosecco. The test of time has proved this Prosecco Maestro right. Long-standing relationships with family growers in the DOCG area give the winery access to some of the appellation’s best bruit. Its packaging reflects local tradition but with a modern flair that gives the wines extra appeal among sparkling wine aficionados. Primo made history once again when he became one of the first Prosecco producers to bottle single-vineyard designate wines, including one of the appellation’s most famous crus, Vigneto della Riva di San Floriano.
