At the heart of Valdobbiadene, Nino Franco has been crafting Prosecco with purpose since 1919. The story begins with Antonio Franco, who founded the winery with a clear vision: to produce a high-quality sparkling wine that honored its origins. His son Nino continued the tradition, helping the winery grow, solidify its reputation, and expand its reach.
But it was Nino’s son, Primo Franco, who ushered in a new era. After graduating from the School of Enology in Conegliano Veneto, Primo joined the family business with a fresh perspective shaped by years of travel and international experience. From the very start, he focused on a precise model of quality—believing that excellence begins in the vineyard.
In the early 1990s, Primo took direct control of a vineyard to test innovative planting methods and rediscover old Glera clones. At the same time, he deepened collaboration with local growers to bring his vision of Prosecco to life: expressive, terroir-driven, and capable of standing alongside the world’s finest sparkling wines.
Today, Primo is joined by his wife Annalisa, who oversees the family’s Villa Barberina estate, and by their daughter Silvia, who shares in all key production, strategic, and commercial decisions.
The winery focuses on 100% Glera grapes from steep hillside vineyards, crafting Prosecco that’s dry, elegant, and unmistakably rooted in place. Signature cuvées include Rustico, an iconic brut with creamy mousse and floral lift, and Grave di Stecca, a single-vineyard wine that breaks every expectation of what Prosecco can be: structured, mineral, and serious.
