Cannonau is Sardinia’s most famous red grape, and in the hands of Sella & Mosca, it becomes a soulful expression of the island’s wild beauty. Their Cannonau di Sardegna Riserva is made from carefully selected grapes grown on sun-drenched hillsides near Alghero. These vineyards benefit from dry conditions, rocky soils, and cool coastal breezes, which give the wine its balance of ripeness and freshness.
After fermentation, the wine is aged in large Slavonian oak barrels and then in bottle, allowing the flavors to mellow and integrate. In the glass, it shows aromas of dried cherry, red plum, baking spices, and Mediterranean herbs, with a subtle smoky undertone. On the palate, it’s round and velvety with soft tannins and a savory finish.
Cannonau is genetically linked to Grenache, but Sardinian versions have their own distinct character—drier, more structured, and often slightly rustic in the best way. The Riserva is an excellent partner for grilled lamb, hearty pastas, or pecorino sardo.
Sella & Mosca’s Cannonau Riserva isn’t just a wine – it’s a deep dive into Sardinian tradition. Every bottle offers a taste of this rugged island’s resilience, warmth, and timeless charm.
