Perched on the golden hills of Sicily’s Monreale DOC, Baglio di Grìsi is a winery that blends ancient legends with bold innovation. The name “Grìsi” harks back to the Greek word Krysos, meaning gold—a nod to the area’s legendary fertility and the shimmering quality of its wines.
Founded in the 1930s by visionary agronomist Dr. Mario Di Lorenzo, the estate has been family-run for over a century. Di Lorenzo’s pioneering spirit led him to experiment with both native and international grape varieties, planting Syrah, Cabernet Sauvignon, and Chardonnay long before it was trendy. His hunch? That these grapes, when grown in the clay and limestone soils at 400–500 meters above sea level, could develop a uniquely Sicilian identity—vibrant, fresh, and aromatic.
Today, Baglio di Grìsi is still a family affair, rooted in tradition but always looking forward. The estate’s location—midway between Palermo and Trapani—benefits from cool sea breezes, dramatic diurnal temperature shifts, and pristine natural surroundings. While the wines may be quietly under the radar, they’re anything but shy on the palate. With sustainability at heart and elegance in every bottle, Baglio di Grìsi is a hidden gem turning heads in Sicily’s golden basin.

Did you know?
Legend has it that a massive treasure—“Lu Bancu di Grìsi”—lies hidden in a grotto beneath the estate. But beware: anyone who dares to steal even a single coin is doomed to wander the cave until they return it. Great wine, great views… and maybe even buried treasure.
